Gumani Devi, 29 years Introducing: - Gumani devi is a leader of a Maa durga Self Help Group formend in 2006. This comprises 12 members. In village of mashiniya, Peesangan Block of Ajmer District.Gumani heads up the Maa Durga Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan teaching knitting and stitching as well as running. Confident, and self sufficient Gumani is a role model for many young women in the community, and yet it wasn't always so. Through the Self Help Group network Gumani has learnt about and installed a bio-gas unit enjoying clean energy for cooking and organic compost for her land. At first her families weren't supportive, and felt it would distract from her housework. Bus soon they realized how her income could help buy food for the family. Today Gumani has mad enough money to by her own house, expand her business and send her son to an English medium school. But for Gumani helping other women is distress is her primary motivation and she offers free training to those that cannot afford it. |
